Karin Jo Bardo

Karin Jo Bardo, 52, of Silver Creek died unexpectedly Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at the TLC/HN Lake Shore Hospital in Irving. She was born on April 21, 1964 in Dunkirk, the daughter of George and the late Maureen (Karin) Catalano.

A lifelong area resident, Karin was a graduate of Silver Creek Central School, Class of 1982, where she played the flute in the band and was a cheerleader. Karin then went on to SUNY Fredonia, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education. Karin taught Pre-K education at Gowanda and Silver Creek Elementary Schools for over 18 years. She was known for her selfless personality, a very subtle sense of humor and being crafty. Teaching was a big part of her life; she received a lot of satisfaction watching her students' development and considered them her extended family. She loved the outdoors, especially her pool and Lake Erie. Number one in her life was her family.

Starting with Paul, one would always see them together and the standing joke was they were like the characters Chip and Dale. Karin really enjoyed attending her children's sporting events, wherever they might be. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Survivors include her father, George Catalano of Dunkirk; her husband of 28 years, Paul Bardo; two sons, Bradley Bardo of Camp Lejeune, NC and Brendan Bardo of Silver Creek; a daughter, Jordyn Bardo of Silver Creek; two sisters, Patricia (Loren) Smith of Cassadaga and Jennifer (Mike) Serio of Forestville; a brother, Larry (Christine) Catalano of Rocky Mount, NC; brother-in-law, Larry Bardo of Silver Creek; and sister-in-law, Sandy (Jim) Fuzak of Williamsville. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Patrick Catalano; her father- and mother-in-law, Sam and Mary Bardo; and a sister-in-law, Janice Valentine.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek on Thursday, December 1 from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 2 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Silver Creek. Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Karin's memory to the Silver Creek Emergency Squad, 162 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY 14136.
