Miles R. Barnes, Jr.

Miles R. Barnes, Jr., 88, of Silver Creek passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 1, 2016 at his daughter Jacquelyn's residence in Orchard Park, NY. He was born on April 6, 1928 in Sheridan, the son of the late Myles and Bertha (Colts) Barnes.

A lifelong area resident, Miles graduated from Silver Creek High School, Class of 1945 after attending Veteran's High School in Buffalo. He attended the University of Buffalo, studying physics.

The war broke out, and he joined the Merchant Marines during WWII and then served in the U.S. Army in the 350th Infantry, 88th Division from 1946-47. He was employed by the Ford Stamping Plant in Hamburg, retiring after 38 years of service as a tooling inspector.

His passion was genealogy; he belonged to the Genealogical Society. Miles would travel all over researching his family and extended families history.

He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn (Donald) Walton and Marilyn (Thomas) O'Connell, both of Silver Creek, Madelyn (Robert) Bradigan of Forestville and Jacquelyn (Martin) Hallinan of Orchard Park; eight grandchildren, Donald (Diane) Walton, Jr., Jeffrey Walton, Cheri (James) Zadzilka, Michael (Molly) Pecoraro, Danielle Pecoraro, Karen (Bradigan) Smith, Eric Hallinan and Molly Fenske; and seven great-grandchildren, Aaron Walton, Ally Walton-Bald, Haley Zadzilka, Aiden and Maia Pecoraro, Brayden Smith, and Kwentin Foster. In addition to his parents, Miles was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Evelyn (Kollath) Barnes; a brother, Bruce Barnes; two sisters, Fae Damico and Ruth Barnes; three Harris half-sisters and two Harris half-brothers; also a companion, Gertrude (Schneider) Monte.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek.

Arrangements are by the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek.
