Theresa S. Waterman

Theresa (Schrantz) Waterman, 83, of Dunkirk passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 surrounded by her family at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. She was born November 11, 1933 in Dunkirk to the late Leonard and Angela (Ludes) Schrantz.

Theresa attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1951. She was first employed as an executive secretary in the office of the Chief Executive Officer at Locomotive Development Corp (LDC). She was later employed in the office of the Chancellor at SUNY Fredonia, where she worked until she had children. After her children were grown, she worked for several years as a lunch room monitor at Schools 3 and 4 in Dunkirk.

She married Carl Waterman on August 31, 1963. They moved to their home on Deer Street in 1967, where they raised their four children: Mary (Timothy) Weber of Alden, Ann (Patrick) Greeley of Williamsville, Daniel (Bonnie) of Marilla and John of Dunkirk. Theresa was the proud and devoted grandmother of nine grandchildren: Katie Weber, Patrick II, Kevin, Ryan and Connor Greeley, and Daniel Jr., Frederick, Elizabeth and Emily Waterman.

Theresa was a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where she served as a sacristan for many years. She also volunteered at the Chautauqua County Home.

Theresa is survived by her brothers, Leonard (Dorothy) Schrantz of Dunkirk, Paul (Sandra) of Gaithersburg, MD and Frederick (Darlene) of Springville; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Schrantz of Glenshaw, PA, Nancy Kelly of Dunkirk, Judith Waterman of Fredonia, Joanna Waterman of Punta Gorda, FL, Belva Waterman of Moline, IL and Carole Waterman of Marysville, OH; and brother-in-law, Marvin (Lois) Waterman of Anaheim, CA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Schrantz; brothers-in-law, Frederick, Robert and Ronald Waterman; and sister-in-law, Margaret Waterman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Monday, January 16 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 15 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
