Joseph D. Wolnik, 88 years old, of Brocton passed away after a short illness Friday evening, January 13, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Brocton, the son of the late Peter and Mary (Niedbalski) Wolnik.
Mr. Wolnik was a retired crane repairman for the Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporation. He was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, the 1st Ward Falcons Club, the Kosciuszko Club, and was a exempt member of the Brocton Fire Department. He served for two years as a Village Trustee for the Village of Brocton and for many years was an umpire for the Brocton Youth Baseball. He was a avid walker.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hill) Wolnik of Brocton; three daughters, Jana (Eugene) Tarnowski of Dunkirk, Dawn (Rick) Belleville of Centreville, VA and Jody (Michael) Gianotti of Saline, MI; two sons, Peter Wolnik of Fredonia and Daniel (Tammy) Wolnik of Maitland, FL; 12 grandchildren, Tara (Doug) Amidon, Traci (Joe) Sword, Alicia Belleville, Kevin (Rebecca) Gianotti, Micaella Gianotti, Leah Gianotti, Samantha Gianotti, Shayne, Lucas Allysa and Rhett Wolnik; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Amidon, Anna Amidon, Amilya Wolnik and Selina Wolnik; and one sister, Esther Travis of Brocton. He was predeceased by a brother, Leo Wolnik; and four sisters, Dorothy Zagorski-Mildenstein, Lorraine Portanova, Barbara Wolnik and Dolly Dejnarski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 1:00 PM from St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Walters as Celebrant. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
