George A. Dimon

George A. Dimon, 88, of Fredonia Place, formerly of Cassadaga, died Monday, February 13, 2017. Born December 14, 1928 on the family homestead in Maple View, a son of the late Loyal C. and Elizabeth Wilson Dimon.

He was a 1947 graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School and in 1952 from the College of Agriculture at Cornell University.

He was a veteran of the United States Army in the Medical Corps with service in Berlin, Germany.

George was employed for 28 years with the Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration, retiring in 1985. He was County Supervisor in Jamestown for 16 years, assisting many with farm and housing loans. George's last six years of employment were working from the District Office in Salamanca, where he was employed as the Assistant District Director for the nine Western New York counties and assisted nearly every community in Chautauqua County with loans and or grants for various community projects.

George was a member of the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion #1280, VFW Post #557 in Bemus Point, 50-year member of the Cassadaga Community Baptist Church, 50-year member of the Odd Fellows between Cassadaga IOOF 664 and Chautauqua IOOF 382 in Fredonia, AK-BAR Sanctorium 150 in Fredonia and Chautauqua Encampment #54 in Falconer, having served in most offices of each organization of Professional Employees of the Department of Agriculture, a former member at the Ruben Fenton Philatolic Society in Jamestown, served one term on the Stockton Town Board, was a Notary Public, and a licensed real estate agent working for a number of years with ERA Larson Real Estate.

George married his high school sweetheart, the late Estelle Rose Dimon, on June 15, 1952 in the First Methodist Church, Mexico, NY. They had 54 years of wonderful marriage, Estelle died November 24, 2006. Father of Lisa Crandall of Dunkirk, Colleen (Todd) Anger of Silver Creek, George Craig (Michelle) Dimon of Bemus Point, the late Vanessa Dibble (2015) and infant son, Lance (1969); father-in-law of Scott Dibble of Cassadaga; grandfather of Adam, Joel and Alex Dibble, Mark Crandall, Ashley Crandall Pittman, Katherine and Jill Anderson; great-grandfather of Kyan, Finley, Cooper and Ellie Dibble, Ragen Crandall and Maeson Lucas; brother of Dr. Myron Dimon, Ruth Crabtree and the late Marjorie Stone (2005) and Erwin Dimon (2014); brother-in-law of Lorraine Dimon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service is at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 17 in the former Cassadaga Community Baptist Church, 25 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16 in the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery.
