Richard C. Victor

Richard C. Victor, age 72, of Dunkirk passed away at Buffalo General Hospital early Friday morning, April 21, 2017. He was born in Westfield on July 2, 1944 to the late Cornelis and Genevieve Gelina Victor.

Richard graduated from Dunkirk Industrial High School, Class of 1963, where he was salutatorian. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served as a SP4 E4 in the 87th Transport of the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a member of BMA St. Hyacinth's Parish, Sheridan Memorial VFW Post #6390, American Legion Post #62, and the West Town of Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Company.

Richard always had a strong work ethic that started out as a youth delivering newspapers and later working at Sanderson's Garage in Fredonia. He would become a truck driver that worked for Davis & Randall in Fredonia, Try It Distributing of Buffalo, and Path Truck Lines in Dunkirk. After he retired, he would haul grapes during the harvest season. He would participate yearly in the "Share a Dream" caravan. He was always seen trucking with his girlfriend "Cheyenne," his loving and faithful canine companion, out cruising and listening to the oldies music on the radio. He would always say "once a truck driver, "always a truck driver." He would always be giving directions to other drivers anywhere in the country and tell them where the potholes were.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Barbara Berdych. Also survived by three sons, Brian Victor of Ohio, Jason (Patty) Victor and Kevin (Cindy) Victor, both of Dunkirk; one grandson, Brandon Victor of Ohio; his sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Kiec of Angola; and his brother-in-law, John Berdych of Pavillion. He is further survived by stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as his granddogs.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. at BMA St. Hyacinth’s Church, with the Rev. Jan Trela officiating. Inturnment will follow at Holy Trinity Columbarium.

Memorials can be made to the Lake Shore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
