Donald L. Higbee, 86, of Dade City, FL, formerly of Sunset Bay, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the home of his daughter in Fredonia under Hospice care. He was born January 30, 1931, in Omaha, NE, son of the late Claude and Emily Higbee.
Don grew up in Mexico, MO and met and married the love of his life for 64 years, the late Ida T. (Watts) Higbee on April 17, 1947, and died January 11, 2012.
A truck driver for over 50 years, Don had received many awards for an accident and traffic ticket-free career.
Memberships include Moose Club in Dade City, FL, Life member of Chautauqua County Fireman's Fraternity, past member of the Sunset Bay Fire Department, and Point Breeze Fire Department.
Surviving are his children, Les Higbee of Date City, FL and David Higbee of Granite City, IL; daughters, Kathy (Bob) Warsitz of Brooksville, FL, Debra Lott of Turlock, CA and Beverly (Chris) Nowicki of Fredonia; brothers, Eugene Higbee and Claude Higbee, Jr.; and sister, Edith Shelby; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, is a daughter, Patricia Zanghi; and sisters, Charlotte and Carol.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Date City, FL.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk.
