Alvin K. Rowland, Jr., 66, of Fredonia passed away Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a short illness.
Alvin was born on July 23, 1951 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Alvin K. Rowland, Sr. and Gwendolyn (Amy) Rowland. He attended Brocton Central School and some classes at the University at Buffalo.
Throughout most of his life, Al had a spirit of determination, a good sense of humor, and an ability to overcome adversity.
After losing his leg as a young child in a tragic car accident, he persevered to learn many skills, including riding bicycles, playing basketball, swimming and driving sports cars with standard transmissions.
Al spent the majority of his years employed as a sales representative for different companies: K & K Rigging, PennYork, Evergreen Homes, and AutoZone. In addition to sales, he worked at Landrich Body Shop and bartended at Lion's Gate.
He was a longtime member and past officer of the Fredonia Beaver Club. Besides this pastime, he enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and swapping stories around his home bonfires with friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Brian (Krista) Rowland of Pittsburgh, PA; his sister, Valerie (Rowland) Cave of Conroe, TX; mother-in-law, Colleen Crise of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews. Alvin was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Nancy (Crise) Rowland; and his brother, Craig L. Rowland.
All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi of the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 E. Main St., Fredonia.
