Anne Mathers Matyjakowski

Anne Mathers Matyjakowski, 84, a former resident of St. Columban's on the Lake, Silver Creek, passed away peacefully Thursday (Dec. 29, 2011) surrounded by her family.

Born May 26, 1927 in Bennington, Vt., Anne was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1945. She was on the committee for her class reunions and at times was co-chairman or mistress of ceremonies.

Anne was employed by Ames Department Store for 20 years and at Patton Electric Wholesale, where she retired in 1992.

Children were her main concern. She was a 13-year member of the Foster Grandparent Association. For 13 years, she was Grandma Annie to children at Fredonia Child Development.

She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who came into her life. Her family was the biggest thrill in life.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane (Gary) Anson; one son, Richard L. (Marion) Matyjakowski; grandchildren Kristen Anson and Nicholas (Keri) Anson; great-grandchildren, Koty and Ian, Khloe and Dalila; and two sisters, Madylon (Fritz) Kubera and Kathleen (Tom) Novotny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, whom she married Sept. 3, 1949 and who died Feb. 25, 1992; a granddaughter, Melinda S. Matyjakowski on Feb. 25, 2010; her parents, Ralph and Antoinette Mathers; brothers Kenneth, Ralph and Sgt. Jack Mathers, who was reported MIA from the Korean War in 1950; and sister, Barbara Long Steger.

She will be greatly missed by her family, especially Diane Anson, who cared for her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 9:30 in St. Columban's on the Lake Chapel, Silver Creek. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum of St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Columban's on the Lake. Flowers gratefully declined.
