Frances C. Contino

Frances C. Contino, age 88, of Silver Creek died unexpectedly on Thursday evening, January 18, 2018 at Buffalo General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 11, 1929 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nancy (D A’mico) Oliver.

Fran was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Carmen R. Contino on September 18, 1948 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. church in Silver Creek. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2017. She worked for a number of years at the St. Columban's Seminary, was the co-owner of the Oak Hill Diner, and also employed by the Silver Creek Central School as a lunch monitor.

Fran was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church in Silver Creek; she was active in their Social Club. A former member of the Tri-County Country Club, where Carmen and Fran played in the couples league. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, but most of all, taking care of her family. Later in life, Carmen and Fran would try their luck at the local casinos, playing the penny slots. Fran always looked forward to getting dressed up and going dancing. The family called her "Fancy Franny."

She is survived by three sons, James (Mary Jo) Contino and Joseph (Sandra) Contino, both of Amherst, and Jeffrey (Faye) Contino of Forestville; a daughter, Janet (Mark) Kinney of Sheridan; nine grandchildren, Ann Kinney, Kelly (Marty) Schaefer, Nicholas, Stephen (Carly), Matthew, Michael, Andrew and Alexandra Contino; twin great-grandchildren, Reese and Avery Schaefer; a brother, Carmen Oliver of Silver Creek; a sister, Mildred Chiappone of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 25 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek at 10 a.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Fran's memory to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church.
