Salvatore P. Favata, Jr.

Salvatore P. Favata, Jr., formerly of Fredonia and Dunkirk, died at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

"Sal" was the youngest son of the late Salvatore Sr. and Mary (Nasca) Favata. He was born in Buffalo on December 27, 1935, but spent the majority of his life in Fredonia.

After high school, Sal enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. For his service, he earned the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his discharge from the U.S. Marines, Sal worked as a letter carrier at the Fredonia Post Office and was the N.A.L.C. Branch #3 Steward for several years. He retired as a letter carrier after 30 years of service and went to work for Arsian Uniforms as a sales representative. His charity work had included being a charter member of the Fredonia Jaycees.

On June 11, 1960, Sal married the love of his life, Susan Louise Babcock, at St. Anthony's Church in Fredonia. Together, they raised a wonderful and loving daughter. Sadly, Susan died on May 18, 2011.

Sal was a true Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan and was also known as an avid golfer. He frequently played at the Hillview Golf Course where he had a "Hole in One" on May 26, 2002 and also participated in the Valledolmo Golf Tournament.

Sal was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law. He took pride in his yard, his career as a letter carrier, and enjoyed coffee with "the boys." He had a smile that would light up the room and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

Salvatore is survived by his loving daughter and caregiver, Christine (Favata) Ortiz; Christine's husband, Prudencio Ortiz; and granddaughter, Nicole. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Mangano of Buffalo; and brothers, Philip Favata of Jamestown and Joe Favata of Florida.

Sal's funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 12:00 PM in the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main Street, Fredonia, with the Reverend Joshua Ehmke officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral serice and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi, Director.
