Daryl L. "Butch" Gabel, age 77, of Prospect St., Gowanda passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where he had been convalescing for the past month. Born on December 25, 1940 in Dayton, one of 15 children born to Jacob and Catherine (Wagenblatt) Gabel.
Daryl retired from New York State; at the time of his retirement, he worked in Maintenance at the former JN Adam Developmental Center in Perrysburg. Butch also worked at the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center, transferring to JNAdam after the Psych Center closed. Butch was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elizabeth "Liz" Marki; along with three children: a daughter, Carol (Mark) Machuga of Gotha, FL, and two sons, Ronald Gabel of Florida and Kevin (Melanie) Gabel of North Tonawanda; two grandchildren, Emily and Sara Gabel; along with three sisters, Josephine Milks of Florida, and twin sisters Janice Chadwick of Collins and Joyce Ivett of Perrysburg. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, Butch is preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia and Sarah Gabel; and 10 brothers (in no specific order), LeRoy, Herman, Edward, Raymond, Richard, Chester, Charles, Gerald, Donald "Jacob" and Robert Gabel. A sister, Marie Taber, also preceded Butch in death.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m. from the Gowanda Free Methodist Church, 149 West Main St., Gowanda (please assemble at church). Interment in the Jolls Cemetery.
