Jose Galindo

Jose "Pepe" Galindo M.D., 89.5 years, of Greer, SC, formerly of Port Charlotte, FL and Fredonia, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 27, 1928 in Real Del Monte, Mexico.

Jose was the beloved husband of Martha G. Galindo; the darling son of the late Jose Galindo and Maura Galindo de Heredia; big brother of Maura Galindo, Carlos Galindo and Marta Galindo, all of Mexico City; and preceded in death by Guillermo Galindo.

Loving father of Dr. Jose Galindo, Jr. and Emily of Carlisle, PA, William Galindo and Tammy of Greer, SC, Jaime Galindo of New York City, Martha Barone (Galindo) and Gregory of Little River, SC, and Patricia Wilkey (Galindo) and Wesley of Harvard, MA. Adored grandfather "Lito" of Joseph (Alicia) and Mia Galindo; Carlyea (Larry) Galindo/Massing, Nicholas Galindo, Katelyn (Dirk) Galindo/Beck, Liam Galindo and Gabriella Galindo; Anthony (Tricia) Barone, Matthew Barone and Rudi (Lacey) Barone; Elizabeth Wilkey, Preston Wilkey and Halston Wilkey; and great-grandchildren, Tino, Giovanni and Rocco Barone; Adrian and Bronx Barone; Lawson Massing; Denali and Isaiah Galindo.

A graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Pepe ventured to Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls to complete his internship and residency in 1954 after responding to a need for rural doctors in the United States that was published in the Journal of American Medicine. He earned a Fellowship in Neurological Pathology at Harvard University. Licensed in the states of New York, Maine and Virginia in Medicine. Board certified in Pathology. Chief pathologist at Glens Falls. State pathologist at Pineland Hospital in Portland, ME. Chief pathologist at Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda, Lakeshore Hospital in Silver Creek, Westfield Hospital in Westfield and Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. While practicing at Brooks Memorial, he was Chief of Staff. Jose was a member of the American Medical Association and Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, with several published articles.

Jose continued his medical practice by providing healthcare for the State University of New York-Fredonia, the New York State Department of Corrections, and his own family practice of over 10,000 patients for more than 40 years.

Jose retired to Port Charlotte, FL, where he enjoyed the beauty of the coastline and reading in the ocean breeze, creating India ink drawings and nature walks. He loved to travel, visit with all his family, entertain with the harmonica, laugh and tell endless jokes.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Simpsonville, SC. Funeral arrangements by The Wood Mortuary, Inc., Greer, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, Tampa, FL.
