Pack up your mountain bikes, road bikes, hiking boots, skis and snowboards if your heading to Aspen this weekend, because when the Silver Queen Gondola spins, skiing and snowboarding will be yet another spring outdoor recreational option.
Aspen Mountain will re-open for Memorial Day Weekend skiing with 16 trails and nearly 90 acres of mostly intermediate terrain, served by the Ajax Express chairlift.
The 12th annual Pats Peak Mountain Bike Festival weekend in Henniker, N.H., is June 8-9. Choose from 24-, 12- or 6-hour, X-Country Challenge and Downhill Thrill races.
The 24-, 12- or 6-hour competitors can ride solo or in 2-, 4- or 5-person teams. It begins at 12 noon Sat., June 8. This is an endurance competition held on a circuit course of wooded trails, unpaved roads, along with a variety of obstacles that tests strength and technical ability. You can pre-ride the course for free when it opens on a soon-to-be-announced date.
Skiing and trains go way back to the days of rope tows, wooden skis and leather boots, and this summer New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain brings the two back together again.
