Saturday Sports Update

Top: Shamon Stewart (left) and Darnell Butts (right) powered Dunkirk to a 69-49 victory on Friday at Springville in the Section VI Class B-1 quarterfinals.  Stewart had a double-double, scoring a season-high 23 points and adding 15 rebounds and three assists in the winning effort.  Butts was red hot in the 3rd quarter, scoring 13 of his 18 points in that period.  Photos by Kevin Lidlow

Bottom left: Devin Pope doesn't just score the ball for Chautauqua Lake -- he does just about everything well on the floor.  On Friday, the junior, who averages more than 28 points per game this season, was "held" to 20 points, but also had eight rebounds and eight assists in the Thunderbirds' 73-54 win over Cassadaga Valley in the Class C-1 quarterfinals.  Photo by the Post-Journal

Bottom right: Another local team in Class C was not so fortunate to advance.  Randolph's Jake Beaver, seen here driving to the rack against Westfield, scored a career-high 21 points, as the Cardinals decisively ended the Wolverines' season by a 70-25 margin in the Class C-2 quarterfinals.  Photo by the Post-Journal
