The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office charged three people with drunk driving in the north county last weekend.
On Saturday, deputies on routine patrol in the Town of Portland pulled over a vehicle for an alleged violation shortly after 10:15 PM. An investigation found that the driver, 38-year-old Christoper Woods of Irving, was allegedly intoxicated. Woods was charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation, and no headlamps. He was later released with tickets for Portland Town Court.
At about 2:00 AM Sunday, deputies on patrol in the Town of Pomfret stopped a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Joseph Hernandez-Bentley of Dunkirk. An investigation found that Hernandez-Bentley. He was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, no seatbelt, license plate violation, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Hernandez-Bentley was later released with tickets to appear in Pomfret Town Court.
Also on Sunday, deputies responded to a reported crash on Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Hanover shortly after 7:00 PM. They determined that one of the drivers, 45-year-old Daniel Shagott of West Seneca, was allegedly intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, following too closely, unsafe tire and no/inadequate headlights. Shagott was released with tickets to appear in Hanover Town Court.
