Jamestown Police Impaired Driving Arrests April 8-19

Jamestown Police made several recent arrests for drunk and/or impaired driving in the city. They include the following incidents:

On April 8th, officers patrolling the city's south side pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation shortly before 3:30 AM. A subsequent investigation determined that 35-year-old Darryl Cavness was allegedly intoxicated. Cavness, whose license was previously revoked for drunk driving, was charged with DWI, 1st-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, circumventing ignition interlock device, and consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. Officers add that this was Cavness' third DWI arrest in less than three months.

On April 11th, a routine traffic stop shortly before 2:15 AM resulted in two arrests. Jamestown Police say 30-year-old Ellen Mesler, who got pulled over on Forest Avenue near Terrace Place, was allegedly found to be intoxicated. While officers were investigating that stop, the driver of a vehicle ahead of Mesler's vehicle allegedly began to obstruct the traffic stop. Mesler, along with 38-year-old Timothy Cornelius, were both taken into custody. Mesler was charged with aggravated DWI, while Cornelius faces a charge of DWI. Also on the city's south side, officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and a moving violation shortly after 9:30 PM. The investigation found that 32-year-old Codijames Ceranski of East Aurora was allegedly under the influence of drugs. He was charged with DWAI-drugs and several traffic infractions.

On April 12th, officers stopped a vehicle in the area of Sprague Street and Adams Street shortly after 3:45 AM and learned that the driver, 44-year-old Melissa Paddock, had suspended driving privileges in New York. Further investigation and field sobriety testing revealed that she was allegedly intoxicated. Paddock was taken into custody without incident and charged with DWI and 3rd-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. At about 4:00 AM, officers pulled over a vehicle on Linwood Avenue after it failed to keep right on Maple Street, and the driver got out of the vehicle and began walking away. The subject, later identified as 30-year-old Cory Bryant, allegedly refused to identify himself on multiple occasions, which led to him being taken into custody. He was charged with failure to keep right, resisting arrest, and DWI. Shortly after 4:45 AM, Jamestown Police pulled over a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Justis Maxwell in the area of Lincoln Street and East 8th Street for an infraction. Further investigation determined that he was allegedly intoxicated. Maxwell was charged with DWI and failure to signal.

On April 18th, officers were called to a report of an erratic driver at a business on the city's north side at about 10:30 AM. An investigation found that 21-year-old Mattie Larson was allegedly driving the vehicle while intoxicated. Officers also found that his BAC was allegedly more than twice the legal limit. Larson was charged with aggravated DWI (BAC .18% or higher), uninspected motor vehicle, and operating without insurance. He was booked and subsequently released with traffic tickets.

On April 19th at about 2:15 AM, Jamestown Police pulled over a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Heidi Lauer for an observed infraction on the city's west side. After speaking with Lauer, officers discovered that she was allegedly intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely, then released with traffic tickets.
