The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities (DPF) Division of Solid Waste will host a household hazardous waste drop-off days on Saturday, July 22nd from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Town of Chautauqua Highway Garage at 50 Patterson Street in Mayville. This event allows residents to safely dispose hazardous chemicals free of charge. The service is only offered to households; businesses cannot participate.
Among items accepted include used antifreeze, fluorescent tube lights, flammable adhesives, flammable solvents, paint thinner, mineral spirits, deck cleaners, non-empty aerosol cans, flammable floor polish, herbicides, pesticides, chemistry sets and pool chemicals.
In addition, the following materials will not be accepted: batteries, fire extinguishers, motor oil, other waste oils, caulk, drywall compound, electronics, prescription drugs, sharps, soap and smoke detectors.
Participating residents participating must complete a registration form listing the materials they are dropping off. Registration forms are available online at https://chqgov.com/landfill/landfill and will also be available at the event.
This collection event is sponsored by Chautauqua County, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Storer's Container Services, and the Chautauqua County HAZMAT Team.
