The League of Women Voters and the Green Sanctuary Team of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua will hold a presentation about the Inflation Reduction Act on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, located at 222 Temple Street in Fredonia. This presentation, which will also be offered via Zoom, will be given by members of People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Green), a non-profit, community-based energy efficiency and clean energy program serving Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties. PUSH Green is the regional hub for information and guidance on how you can get the most out of the Inflation Reduction Act. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a large legislative bill signed into law last year by President Biden. The law is aimed at fighting inflation, lowering the deficit, reducing the price of prescription drugs for seniors, and reducing the country's carbon emissions. The bill includes nearly 11 billion dollars to build electrification infrastructure in rural America with clean, affordable, reliable energy and to enhance the quality of life in rural communities. The Inflation Reduction Act also invests in America’s clean energy future. IRA is lowering energy costs, bringing opportunity to communities across America and tackling the climate crisis through investments in agriculture, forest restoration, and rural communities. PUSH Green is funded by The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). This presentation by PUSH will give a basic overview of the IRA and how it can help both individuals and businesses move towards more efficient use of energy and reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Learn how you as an individual can benefit from the passage of this historic bill. The presenters from PUSH Green are Jason Posner and Luana DeJesus. Jason Posner started his Energy career with New Buffalo Impact, a not-for-profit weatherization company, working on the front lines as a crew chief installing insulation, weatherstripping and Foam insulation. After a year, he became a certified Building Analyst with the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and obtained certifications as an Energy Auditor, Building Shell Professional, Advanced Air-Sealing Professional, Lead Abatement Supervisor, Asbestos Removal Professional and OSHA20. After 8 years with NBI, Jason took the position at Push Green as the Healthy Homes Program Manager collaborating with residents in five counties with the NYSERDA programs and solar incentives they have to offer. After 8 years of being a contractor, Jason now works on the other side with a contractor list assisting homeowners through NYSERDA programs to become more energy efficient. Jason is also the Project Manager for the Warm and Dry on the West Side, PUSH Buffalo’s in-house structural retrofit program. Luana DeJesus worked at PUSH Green for many years as their first Program Assistant, where she helped design and implement customer outreach strategies, lead tracking, data management and maintenance as well as assisting EmPower customers. In the past year, she transitioned into her current role as Community Energy Programs Manager and is diving deeper into building networks to scale outreach and education to drive clean energy and energy efficiency among renters, homeowners, and small commercial/nonprofits across Western New York. This role includes presentations on energy efficiency and renewables for schools, community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, and the wellness community. Luana is accredited by the Building Performance Institute’s (BPI), and certified in Core Competencies for Community Health Workers, Organizing for Social Change from People’s Action, OSHA20 and Virtual Event Planning.
