St. John's United Church of Christ, 733 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, will present "Christmas Vespers - the Music of Christmas" on Saturday, December 16 at 6:30 pm, featuring pianist Ann Rose and violist David Rose. All are welcome to attend this special celebration of Christmas. Admission is free. Ann Rose received a degree in Composition and Piano from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada. She earned a Master of Piano Performance degree and a degree in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia. She is the organist at St. John's UCC in Dunkirk, and teaches choir and general music at Sinclairville Elementary School. She has toured the Czech Republic and recorded with fellow pianist Jirí Pazour. David Rose has held the positions of associate principal viola of the Vancouver Symphony, the principal violist of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, violist with the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, and acting assistant principal violist of the San Francisco Symphony. He is currently associate professor of viola and coordinator of strings at SUNY Fredonia, as well as the principal violist of the G27 Chamber Orchestra in Toronto. In the summer, he teaches at the Rocky Ridge Young Artists Seminar in the Colorado Rockies and at the Fredonia Summer String Festival. Also taking part will be Ann and David's sons, Billy and Manny, with their own musical contributions to the program. Billy is a sophomore at the University of Toronto. Manny is in the 11th grade and has been in the casts of Fredonia High School musicals. Also at St. John's UCC on Saturday, December 16 will be church's monthly dinner. From 4:30 to 6:00 pm, a ham and scalloped potato dinner will be available. Tickets for the dinner are $13. Pre-orders through the church office are strongly recommended.
