Michael Boedo Community Foundation Family Barbecue and Cornhole Tournament iCal

Saturday, August 31 2024 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Michael Boedo Scholarship, now the Michael Boedo Community Foundation, was founded in 2017 in honor of its namesake, Michael Boedo. Michael was a lifelong resident of the Village of Silver Creek. After graduating from Silver Creek Central School, he aspired to pursue a career in the medical field, joining Lake Shore Hospital as a phlebotomist. Tragically, in 2017, Michael's life was cut short due to an accidental overdose. These incidents occur all too frequently in our communities, affecting our families, friends, coworkers, and everyday people. At the foundation, we aim to assist our communities, reduce stigma, and combat this disease.

Currently, the Michael Boedo Community Foundation gives back to our communities by awarding students at Silver Creek, Forestville and Gowanda Central Schools a scholarship in Michael's name. This year, we proudly sponsored the Hanover youth recreation program, Hanover Little League and Silver Creek's flag football program through our fundraising efforts. Additionally, we've established a partnership with JCC to cover nursing licensing exam fees for adult students returning to school to fulfill their dreams of becoming registered nurses.

Our future goals include expanding scholarships to more students and schools, as well as supporting more adult students attending college. We also aim to provide funding for addiction counseling in our communities, ensuring that individuals have access to help without financial burden. Our broader objectives involve offering more options for addiction counseling, therapy, and rehabilitation in our area.

The community fundraiser this year is Saturday, August 31st from 12:00-8:00 PM at 12401 Allegany Road in Silver Creek. It's our 3rd Annual Community Barbecue and Cornhole Tournament, basket raffles, live music, petting zoo, bounce houses, big ticket raffles, and 50/50s. If you'd like to support our community, please consider sending a check or money order to the address provided. Together, we can strengthen our communities for future generations.

The Michael Boedo Community Foundation sincerely thanks you for your time and support.
