As spring break travel winds down, gas prices are following suit. According to AAA, Monday's nationwide average price at the pump is $3.15 per gallon, which is down just over three cents compared to a week ago. New York State also saw its average dip slightly, dropping more than a penny to $3.09. And in Chautauqua County, the average declined by three cents to $3.29. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.67, and $3.69, respectively.
Lower demand is fueling the downward pricing trend, and with crude as low as it's been in a few years, drivers may continue to see lower pump prices as summer approaches. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased slightly from last week, while total domestic gasoline supply decreased. Crude oil prices have increased slightly, ranging from $63 to $69 per barrel as of Monday morning.
AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:
- Batavia - $3.14 (up one cent from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $3.06 (no change from last Monday)
- Elmira - $2.92 (no change from last Monday)
