Local government sales tax collections across New York totaled $5.8 billion in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same quarter last year. That's according to a report by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, which found that all 10 regions of the state saw a year-over-year increase. This marked the second straight year that first quarter growth was below the pre-pandemic average of 3.5%. In Chautauqua County, sales tax collections in the first quarter totaled approximately $21.54 million, which is a 4.5% increase from the same time in 2024.
