The Town of Pomfret has landed just over $3.2 million in federal money to support critical water infrastructure improvement projects. Congressman Nick Langworthy, who made the announcement on Saturday, says the USDA Rural Development approved loans and grant funding that will support water main replacement projects aimed at improving reliability, safety, and long-term sustainability of the town's water system. The approved funding includes:
- A $1,261,000 USDA Rural Development loan and a $993,000 grant for a water main replacement project totaling $2.26 million
- A $545,000 USDA Rural Development loan and a $409,000 grant for an additional water infrastructure project totaling $960,000.
Together, the projects -- which are being funded through the USDA Rural Development's Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants Program -- will replace deteriorating water pipe infrastructure and help improve the health, safety, and reliability of water service for Pomfret residents. The Town of Pomfret is also contributing local matching funds toward the projects.
