But for the Sabres, Monday night's Game 7 at the KeyBank Center ended with the agony of defeat, as Montreal's Alex Newhook scored the series-winning goal with 8:38 remaining in overtime for a 3-2 win in the contest and a 4-3 series win. The Sabres fell behind 2-0 before rallying to tie the game and force the extra period. Buffalo staved off elimination with an 8-3 victory in Game 6 to force the decisive Game 7. This season marked the first playoff appearance for the Sabres in 15 years, including the team's first playoff series victory since 2007.
