The NHL's Eastern Conference Semifinal series between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens went the distance, and then some. But for the Sabres, Monday night's Game 7 at the KeyBank Center ended with the agony of defeat, as Montreal's Alex Newhook scored the series-winning goal with 8:38 remaining in overtime for a 3-2 win in the contest and a 4-3 series win. The Sabres fell behind 2-0 before rallying to tie the game and force the extra period. After the game, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters that he won't let Monday's game define his team's season...

Buffalo staved off elimination with an 8-3 victory in Game 6 to force the decisive Game 7. This season marked the first playoff appearance for the Sabres in 15 years, including the team's first playoff series victory since 2007.
