Overdose deaths in New York State have substantially declined over the past three years, according to new provisional figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The statistics from the CDC's National Vital Statistics System show that the state's annual number of drug fatalities fell for a third consecutive year and has dropped by 44.9% from 2022-2025. The largest reductions were seen in opioid-related deaths, which are down 51.9% during that same period. Governor Kathy Hochul says that decline is due to historic investments in prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services and supports.
