The Village of Fredonia has a vacancy on its Board of Trustees. In a phone conversation with WDOE News, Jon Espersen confirmed his resignation from the board, which he formally submitted on Wednesday. Espersen -- who was also the village's Vice Mayor -- tells us that a "litany of things" led him to resign, including the death of a friend and an online posting of a phone conversation he had with a village resident about his request to suspend the public comment portion of board meetings. Espersen had been serving on the Village Board since January 2022.
Espersen also mentioned that with his departure, the Board of Trustees will only have three people available for a period of time, with Ben Brauchler currently recovering from surgery.
