Electric School Bus Mandate Will Be Delayed in State Budget

A five-year delay in New York's electric school bus mandate will be part the final state budget. State Senator George Borrello says he supports the budget bill containing that delay, which lawmakers have advanced. Under the budget agreement, school districts will now have until July 2032 before being required to purchase only electric buses and until 2040 until full fleet electrification. While he welcomes the delay, Borrello adds that the measure needs to be accompanied by "substantive" changes...

The Sunset Bay Republican has been among the first lawmakers in Albany to raise concerns about the passage of the electric school bus mandate in 2022. He has advocated for a statewide pilot program to determine where, when, and under what conditions electric school buses can realistically operate.
