HS Softball: Forestville Falls to Oakfield-Alabama in Class D Far West Regional

Forestville High School's bid to make it back to the New York State softball semifinals fell short Friday night. In a matchup of two teams with Hornets as mascots, Section V champion Oakfield-Alabama had more sting in their lineup as it prevailed over Forestville by a 6-1 score in the Class D Far West Regional at Gates-Chili High School.

Oakfield-Alabama jumped out to an early lead with a two-out, two-run home run by cleanup hitter Raine Denny in the bottom of the 1st inning. Forestville's biggest threat of the game came in the top of the 3rd, when the first two batters reached base. However, with two out and the bases loaded, Madison Christian struck out, ending the threat. Oakfield-Alabama tacked onto its lead in the 4th inning, and once again, Denny went yard; her second homer of the game made the score 3-0. The game was put out of reach in the 6th inning when Allison Harkness, Emma Thompson and Allison Williams each drove in a run to stretch the Oakfield-Alabama lead to 6-0. Forestville broke up the shutout when Avery Rebmann scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 7th, but it wasn't nearly enough.

Chloe Lamb and Emma Thompson each had two hits for Oakfield-Alabama, along with Raine Denny. Pitcher Savannah Durham scattered seven hits and allowed three walks in her winning effort. Forestville was led at the plate by Olivia Valentine, who went 2-for-3.
