Runners from across Chautauqua County joined the Dunkirk Police Department for its 9th annual Matthew Hazelton Memorial 5K on Saturday. The event is named in honor of the late Dunkirk Police Officer Matthew Hazelton, who passed away in August 2017. Hazelton was the department's K-9 officer and also served as a member of its Dive Team and Special Response Team. Funds raised from the event are used for a scholarship in Hazelton's name. Several members of the Dunkirk Police Department, Fredonia Police Department, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department, and the New York State Police, as well as members of the community participated in this year's race.
