Jamestown Slashes Permitting Fees for Commercial Roofing Projects

City lawmakers in Jamestown recently approved a resolution that significantly reduces permitting fees for commercial re-roofing projects. Mayor Kim Ecklund outlined the proposal to the City Council, which updates the city's eCode360 fee schedule. Ecklund says it benefits large property owners and contractors with lower square-footage rates and a new maximum fee cap. She says the flat rate of $120 has not changed, while the square-footage rate has been cut to eight cents...

Ecklund says officials reviewed what some other cities charge, and those range upwards to 10 cents, but as low as no charge. She says that makes little sense because there is a cost to the municipality for staff to do the oversight work.
