A Cattaragus County man was sentenced following a conviction of the distribution of child sex abuse material. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced on Wednesday that 31-year-old Philip Young of Olean will serve 15 years in prison and lifetime supervised release by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
Young was previously arrested after a tip was received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) on June 22, 2023. NCMEC received a CyberTipline Report that an image of a juvenile girl was uploaded to the Internet. The image was later traced back to Young. Investigators executed a search warrant at Young’s residence, seizing, among other items, a cellular telephone. The investigation determined that Young used the Telegram application on his phone and the internet to seek out, receive, and distribute child pornography. A forensic review of Young’s cell phone recovered a video constituting child pornography.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the FBI.
