The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office has charged two people from the Finger Lakes area after an investigation into a suspicious situation in the Town of Portland early Saturday afternoon. Sheriff's deputies responded to a location on Lake Avenue shortly before 12:30 PM and learned that a door on a building was damaged, and that entry was made. A short time later, they found two people hiding in weeds near the building. The investigation found that 36-year-old Stephanie Dean of Nunda and 40-year-old Jeremy Eastman of Mount Morris allegedly forced their way into the building and stole multiple items. Both suspects were charged with 3rd-degree burglary, 4th-degree criminal mischief, and petit larceny. The two were taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.
