A local middle school teacher has received a top honor from the Veterans of Foreign Wars District 6 Department of New York. Virginia Maltbie, who teaches special education at Pine Valley Junior-Senior High School, was named the organization's Middle School Teacher of the Year. Maltbie was recognized during VFW District 6's 81st annual District Convention and Dinner in Mayville in late April. She was presented a plaque, certificate, and award check in recognition of her achievement. Maltbie was nominated for the award by school nurse Jill Kenney and High School Principal Kourtney Almeida, who recognized her dedication to students and the school community. VFW District 6 consists of posts in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Erie counties.
