Chautauqua County saw a slight uptick in its unemployment rate in May. According to preliminary statistics released Tuesday by the New York State Department of Labor, the county's jobless rate for the month was 4.5%, which is up by two-tenths of a percent from April. However, it remains lower than the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.6%. Additional statistics show that the county had approximately 400 fewer people employed and 600 more people listed as unemployed, compared to May 2025. One year ago, the county's unemployment rate was 3.4%.
