County Lawmakers Rekindle Debate Over Job Creation

The Chautauqua County Legislature again debated whether job creation should be its "number one" economic development goal. That was the title on the resolution proposed by Jamestown Democrat Fred Larson. However, Majority Republicans argued to have it go to committee after not having gone through that process. Jamestown Democrat Vince DeJoy, who also heads up the City of Dunkirk's Planning and Development Department, praised the efforts of the county's Industrial Development Agency. However, he says, "Why not prioritize job creation?"

However, Silver Creek Republican Tom Harmon recalled an amended resolution from last August stated that job creation was a "top priority." The legislature voted along party lines -- 12-7 -- to send the measure to committee.
