The first year of New York's Universal School Meals Program resulted in 396 million free school meals served statewide. That's according to Governor Kathy Hochul, who adds that the program this year helped families save up to $450 million per month on grocery costs. She says the program ensures that 2.7 million students in the state have access to a healthy breakfast and lunch at participating schools. Hochul adds that this year's state budget included $395 million for school meals, a $55 million increase from last year.
