Gas Prices Continue Trending Lower as July 4th Holiday Nears

Motorists are continuing to see falling prices at the gas pump as summer travel ramps up. According to AAA, Monday's national average is $3.86 per gallon, which is down by nearly seven cents from a week ago. In New York State, the average has fallen over 11 cents to $4.12. And Chautauqua County's average decreased by just over seven cents and is now $4.23. One year ago, the national and state averages were $3.19 and $3.21, respectively.

While motorists are benefiting from these declines, prices are still higher compared to this time last year, with New York currently ranking eighth among all 50 states for the highest prices in the country. AAA adds that crude oil prices have remained relatively steady, with global supply dynamics and ongoing geopolitical developments influencing the market. As of Monday morning, crude oil prices were trading in the high $60s to low $70s per barrel range, down from $75-$79 last week.

AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:

  • Batavia - $4.20 (down 10 cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $4.27 (down eight cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $3.99 (down nine cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $4.38 (down seven cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $4.28 (down six cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $4.18 (down 12 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $4.24 (down 11 cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $4.19 (down 10 cents from last Monday)
