Gas Prices Reach $4 Per Gallon Nationally, Local Prices Remain Higher

Gas prices continue to go up, as instability along the Strait or Hormuz pushes crude oil prices higher. That's the word from AAA, which reports that the national average price at the pump is back up to $4.00 per gallon, an increase of just over 13 cents from a week ago. In New York, the average over the past week climbed by more than seven cents to $4.15. And Chautauqua County saw its average go up by over five cents to $4.24. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.14 and $3.18, respectively.

As of Monday morning, the price for a barrel of crude oil was trading in the low-to-high $80-per-barrel range. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand remained flat last week, while total domestic gasoline supply decreased, and gasoline production decreased last week.

AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:

  • Batavia - $4.19 (up two cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $4.23 (no change from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $4.07 (up two cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $4.26 (down three cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $4.23 (up one cent from last Monday)
  • Rome - $4.17 (up six cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $4.16 (down one cent from last Monday)
