Week 5 at Chautauqua Institution Focusing on Artists and Their Challenges

Chautauqua Institution will shine its spotlight this week on artists and the uphill journeys they have faced in making names for themselves. The lecture theme for Chautauqua's fifth week of the season is called "Art and Artists Against All Odds." Jill McCormick: Kwame Alexander, Candrice Jones, Christopher Jackson, Jade King Carroll

A musical adaptation of The Crossover -- authored by Alexander -- is being developed for the stage by the Chautauqua Theater Company. The week will be highlighted by Natalie Merchant, formerly of the Jamestown-based 10,000 Maniacs, who will be in residence at Chautauqua this week.
