Ashville Man Falls off Watercraft into Chautauqua Lake, Charged with Boating While Intoxicated

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office has filed charges against an Ashville man after he fell off a personal watercraft he was operating on Chautauqua Lake early Saturday evening. The Sheriff's Office Navigation Division responded to a report of a male in distress who was in the water in the Town of North Harmony at about 6:30 PM. Once the man -- identified as 62-year-old Edward Wojcik -- was safely on board, deputies determined that he was allegedly intoxicated and took him into custody. The Sheriff's Office says a breath test revealed that Wojcik's blood alcohol content was .20%. He was charged with boating while intoxicated and not having a sound signal device on a personal watercraft. Wojcik was released with tickets and will appear in North Harmony Town Court at a later date.
