New York Bolsters Gun Safety Measures in Response to Proposed Federal Firearm Regulation Rollbacks

The federal government's proposed rollback of 30 firearms regulations is causing New York State to bolster its gun safety measures even further. Governor Kathy Hochul announced Thursday morning that the state will increase enforcement and education designed to blunt the effect of many of those changes. Hochul says immediate changes include prioritizing State Police inspections of all firearms dealers who are linked to guns involved in crimes...

The state will also expand the scope of its Interstate Task Force on Illegal Guns and launch a public education campaign targeted at firearm dealers. Hochul adds that she plans to introduce new legislation at the beginning of 2027...

Kathy Hochul: all gun sales must be done in person

Hochul says the Trump Administration's proposed changes will make it easier for dangerous individuals to obtain firearms and harder to hold "bad actors" in the firearms industry accountable. The Governor was joined by State Police and members of New York's gun safety coalition for her announcement in New York City.
