Two parents in the Town of Westfield are facing child endangerment charges after their two-year-old child was seen walking unattended in a roadway last week. Westfield Police say a Good Samaritan called in the incident in the area of Route 5 and Route 394 shortly after 5:30 PM on July 22nd. Further investigation found that Cortland Hepfner and Sydney Switzer were responsible for the child at the time. Officers add that the child's residence was found to be in deplorable condition and posed a danger to the child's well-being. Switzer was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, while Hepfner was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child. Both were issued appearance tickets for Westfield Town Court.
