Four libraries in Chautauqua County have been awarded funding through a new grant program launched by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The foundation this week announced the Rural Library Grants Program, which is designed to strengthen rural public libraries and library systems as vital community hubs. A total of $3 million will be invested in libraries across Western New York and southeastern Michigan over the course of three years.
The following libraries in Chautauqua County will receive grant funding:
- Dunkirk Public Library (pictured): $21,638 for upgrades to shared community spaces
- Lakewood Memorial Library: $7,290 for a single person soundproof, private study pod
- Minerva Free Library: $1,863 for support to purchase child-friendly furnishings to encourage young children to engage in hands-on learning activities
- Patterson Library: $56,817 for key technology and space upgrades to allow for increased community access, especially for working families and caregivers
