New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says local sales tax collections across the state amounted to $12.7 billion in the first half of 2026. That's up 6.8% compared to the same period last year, according to a report he released this week. DiNapoli attributes that growth in part to higher prices for goods and services as a result of higher tariffs and global conflicts. The report also shows that Chautauqua County collected $47.01 million in sales taxes from January through June of this year, an increase of 3.3% compared to the first half of 2025.
