Firefighters from several area departments responded to a cabin fire Monday evening in the Town of Pomfret. According to the Fredonia Fire Department, the two-alarm fire at 8407 Route 60 -- the site of the former Camp Wood-E-Lo-Hi -- was called in shortly after 8:00 PM. Mutual aid was provided by Dunkirk, East Dunkirk, Cassadaga, Stockton, Sheridan and Bay Creek. Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers says the fire has been ruled accidental. He tells WDOE News that the blaze resulted from the burning of debris and old wood in close proximity to the cabin, which allowed the fire to spread. Myers says the fire caused an estimated $170,000 in damage. No one was injured. Alstar Ambulance and Chautauqua County Emergency Services were also on scene.
