New York is among a coalition of 25 states suing the Trump Administration over the President's latest round of tariffs. Last month, the United States imposed a sweeping 10% to 12.5% tariff on nearly all imported goods, invoking a law that allows the President to impose tariffs on countries found to engage in unfair trade practices. It comes after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Court of International Trade struck down tariffs imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act. The lawsuit argues that this is a pretext for imposing the same sweeping tariffs the administration has repeatedly tried and failed to enact. On Monday, Attorney General Letitia James said, "After losing at the Supreme Court, the administration is once again trying to illegally raise taxes on families and businesses with a new round of tariffs." James, Governor Kathy Hochul, and the coalition are asking the Court of International Trade to declare the new tariffs illegal.
