81st Annual Gerry Rodeo Begins Wednesday

The longest running rodeo east of the Mississippi River is making its return this week. More than 200 professional cowboys and cowgirls from 30 states will compete in the 81st annual Gerry Rodeo, which gets underway Wednesday evening and continues through Saturday. Rodeo spokesperson Paul Cooley, who was a call-in guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Tuesday, says there will be eight different events contested throughout the week...

More than $50,000 in prize money will be up for grabs during the four-day rodeo. Cooley adds that all tickets purchased for the rodeo are "date-specific." He explains why...

Paul Cooley: problem with overcrowding

Prior to each rodeo performance, there will be barbecue beef dinners served from 5:00-8:00 PM. More information about how the dinners are prepared is available here. Tickets for the Gerry Rodeo are available on its official website or by calling (716) 985-4847. All money raised during the event benefits the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to the rodeo action inside the arena, there will be a midway with sand art, face painting and other children's activities. There will also be a kids' rodeo on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
