A registered Level 1 sex offender from Jamestown is facing federal child pornography charges. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Tuesday that an investigation by New York State Police and Homeland Security Investigations resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Eric Brown, who is charged with distribution and possession of child pornography.
Prosecutors say the investigation into Brown began in February 2025 after State Police received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). NCMEC received a tip from Quora, a social question-and-answer platform, stating that files of suspected child pornography were uploaded by an account subsequently traced to Brown. On June 24th, investigators executed a search warrant at Brown's residence on Van Buren Street and seized two cell phones. A preliminary review of one of the cell phones determined that it contained suspected child pornography.
Brown, who was convicted in 2015 for possessing a sexual performance by a child, made an initial appearance in a Buffalo courtroom and was held pending a detention hearing on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces 15-40 years in federal prison.
