The founders of the Laurel Memorial Run and Walk were recognized by the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame for their efforts to support people with disabilities. Wayne and Elaine Hotelling were presented the Bob Goold Legacy Award during the Hall of Fame's annual Summer Picnic in Lakewood last Monday. The award is presented annually to recognize area residents for their contributions to supporting people with disabilities in sports. The Hotellings created Laurel Run in 1997 to raise public awareness that people with disabilities can accomplish great things. Over the years, the event has given people with disabilities the opportunity to shine, either by participating in the events themselves, volunteering, or supporting Laurel Run/Walk participants. Bob Goold, who has supported Special Olympics for about 50 years, presented the award.
